~ Sigh ~ I Can't Believe This

  1. Parents. Love them totally. Don't want to imagine life without them.

Enter the new love interest. Things are going marvelously wonderfully well. We think, we talk, we decide, let's spend next weekend together. All...."ahem".... weekend.

Parents. In their 60's. Tell them I'm going on a weekend vacation.

You'd think I opened a brothel in my house with the reaction. Get my drift?

So, going to have to endure a week of brow-beating, guilt-laying speeches.

What's a 37 YEAR OLD long-time divorced Mom who had not much of a social life of her own up until recently supposed to do??

    Let the machine pick up??

Put a stop to it now. Just say firmly, this subject is not up for discussion.

    Good Luck!

Kick Back, Relax and have some long overdue serious fun!
Good luck. They will get over it. Don't let anyone guilt you out of enjoying yourself.

    oh, that's nothin' ---

i didn't even date for 18 months after I kicked my 1st husband out. So...one night I took up an invite for a party.... and I stumbled in, sometime during the wee hours, only to discover that they were ALL-- kids and parents--waiting up for me! and furious that I didn't call to give them hourly updates!!!

I was also 37 at the time.

I think it must feel a tad threatening for them when you spend a lotta time and emotional energy on someone other than them.... ya think?

Oh Vegas, I feel your pain. I'm 34 and my parents still think that when I tell them something...anything... that I am asking for a debate and/or their opinion.

When my parents start that crap, I just nicely tell them I wasn't looking for validation or a round-table discussion..that'll usually cool them down a bit. (Usually :chuckle)
