"Why? Why get your knickers in a knot over domestic aid? And not over foreign aid?

  1. I read yesterday that in the U.S. 50% of the people are working and paying the way of the other 50%.

Still, WHY are you all not Pi88es'd Off at the BILLIONS every year going for foreign aid? Does it not tick you ...the current talk of us paying for Israels 75 mile fence that they say is going to cost $1,000,000 per mile? In case you guys don't know it, a fence does not cost that much. The Israeli's pay themselves very well with your $$$. $$$ you earned and was taken out of your paycheck before you even got it.

I don't understand the focus on domestic aid vs . foreign aid. This so called "foreign aid is given to people who I Know are living higher on the hog than I am. It is ridiculous that I am paying my income for these people. I work four shifts a month to donate to foreigners who live in better housing and drive a newer car than I do....(94 ford).

Foreign aid can be a piss off, but there is a reason that we do it (ie, to retain allies). In an increasingly global world, you can't ignore other countries, like things that happen there don't affect you. Do you really think Pakistan would have cooperated with our mission in Afghanistan if Bush hadn't lifted some of the sanctions against them and increased aid money? Do you think Israel, arguably the US's best ally in the Middle East, would even exist without aid? I understand you wouldn't be too upset if Israel did cease to exist, but US foreign policy would suffer in the end.

So, does aid piss me off? At times, but at other times I see the need for it, and I think the VAST majority of our aid doesn't go to people living better than we are (because few countries do have people who live better than us!).

Didn't the US forgive Germany's war debt though? But not Britain?

I totally agree with you on this, prn nurse! Seems like we kiss a lot of azz just to have access to these countries who wouldn't think TWICE about saying NO to us. Actually, they would blow us up in a heartbeat if that's what it took to get their point across to us that they want what we have. I don't believe in kissing azz to get what I want. We should spend more of our hard earned tax dollars in this country. Israel's not a poor country, not even close, so I prefer they build their own darn fence!

I fully, 100%, with heartfelt conviction do want Israel to exist. I simply resent the fact that of all the countries in the world, they are largest benefactor of our foreign aid .......and they enjoy a higher standard of living that Americans!! Anyone who can't see that there is something wrong with that kind of government giving,...............what can I say? ?

Obviously, the US has a vested interest in keeping Israel as an ally since they are our ONLY friend in that volatile part of the world.

Money talks. We cannot afford to be isolationists with so many crazies out there...gotta cultivate relationships...IMO it would be stupid to NOT do so in our position.

But if you want Israel to exist, you know that can only happen with foreign aid right? maybe I misunderstood your previous posts, but I don't see how cutting Israel off financially and its existence are compatible.

I think we support Israel TOO well !! I never said cut them off. In previous posts, I am always asking why don't we support Israel and the Palestinians equally? The whole world is asking WHY is our support so out of balance? And again, when we are giving another country so much money every year that their standard of living is ranked HIGHER than ours..............DUH?
