" Is Labor Day weekend a blast at your house?"

  1. Some of us were discussing Labor Day weekend last night. Some said they recall when it was a "Big Deal", how politicians and Union bigshots came out and gave speeches. And, at work, everyone had ice cream and cake and balloons, etc. And all the administrative folks came out to thank the workers.

And they lamented how....now, it seems kinda vanilla and homogenized....nothing really distinguishes it from just another 3 day weekend.

Are you doing something special to celebrate this weekend?

Labor Day weekend in the Reno area means The Best In The West Rib Cookoff!!!! :hatparty: 4 days of BBQ, crafts and fun.... The event offers free concerts every night and it's just an all out great time.

Of course... the weekend FOLLOWING Labor Day Weekend is The Great Reno Balloon Race.... Nothing like meeting your fellow Renoites (Renoans??) at 5 am for champagne and hot air balloons to the sounds of "Up up and away... in my beautiful balloon...."

Wow !! I didn't know Reno offerred all that. Maybe we oughta start a thread with what our respective areas has to offer. It would be better than a travel book.

I went ballooning about ten years ago in Beaver Creek, Colorado. There was 5 in the balloon and we were up at least an hour...over the golf courses, and a small hill or two, and over a valley and some creeks...really awesome.

I'd give anything to make the Albuquerque Balloon Trip this October. I think it is the largest in the nation. Starts Oct. 6th I think...About 600,000 people show up...and Santa Fe and Taos just up the road. A fabulous 2 weeks !

Enjoy your place in the sun ...........close to ___Hell?

I had totally forgotten until I looked at my assignment book :imbar (now I sound like I'm ten)

Mine's not going to be a real wild just a family get together...Mom's mom is hanging on just barely & we're down to about a month or so to have to share with her, if that. So it will be good to be together! She's ready to go, been ready (cancer), so it's not sad, just bittersweet! :kiss

Geessshhh, sorry to be such a downer, lol

Hope you have a great weekend!

I am sooooo excited, I am going to my family reunion. We have it every year the Sunday before Labor Day, in a park in Ohio.

Last year, I saw all my uncles and aunts, and they were really aging, I don't want to miss anymore reunions. It is a super long drive, and no direct flights, the only ones were $600ppx4=NFW! So, we rented a luxurious minivan to go up. The hotel allows dogs, I just hope the dog won't barf all over the car!!

We bring an echange gift, and food (I/m baking a few loaves of Zucchine bread, b/c I just don't know how I can re-heat a big dish if I made lasagna or something. And some blueberry muffins.

The best part of the day will be seeing all my dad's family. Thesed people are the most genuinely warm, kind, and loving folks I know, I just wish I had been closer all these years to get to know them so much better.

My Dad's dad had 13 children with his first wife, she died (any wonder?) then he re-married and had another 13!!! Can you imagine all the cousins I have? It is really the coolest. We also have an on-line family tree, and BB, so we can post messages to each other.

(PS, any of you in Ohio, if ya wanna come on out, pm me, and bring food!)

I've had this turkey in my freezer for quite a while, and decided Labor Day weekend would be a good time to cook it!! Just having a few friends over to help us eat it.............no big party or anything.

HMMM< just another weekend in paradise. Jail all day, then the beach, probably a BBQ, (anybody ever have deep fried turkey-or smoked turkey) Disneyland at night and fireworks!!!

Probably more like jail all day, a little crocheting at night and bed by 2100, to go to work the next day. ( and hope the boys don't drown at the beach)
