I've been in nursing for 18 years and I really love my patients. I've worked in various areas, Med-Surg, Peds, Post-Partum, NBN, ICU, and ER. I took a job promotion 5 years ago. First doing nursing supervisor and later a managers position. I find no enjoyment in my work anymore. My whole purpose for becoming a nurse was to help and care for my patients. Now, I'm up to my eyeballs in paperwork, conflicts, and deadlines. I have superb nursing employees and it's because of them I've stayed at this as long as I have.
Is anyone else burned out on the hospital scene? I work in a rural area. Our doctors are tyrants with the exception of a few. Administration sides with the MD's as long as they can turn a profit. What has health care gone to?? What other non-hospital positions have any of you considered? Any pros and cons you can add?
