The Children Never Forgot..

  1. Came across a post about an obituary the deceased adult children penned in the papers. How hurt and tortured they must have (felt) been? But sadly, the lady is no longer here to tell her side. What are your thoughts on this?

"Everyone she met, adult or child was tortured by her cruelty and exposure to violence, criminal activity, vulgarity, and hatred of the gentle or kind human spirit," the obit said. "Our greatest wish now is to stimulate a national movement that mandates a purposeful and dedicated war against child abuse in the United States of America."

P.S: Wasn't sure where to insert this thread. Many pardons

Ooooh, ouch. But what courage of her children to write that. I hope it inspires others.

It seemingly did start a movement of child rights and in some cases termination of parental rights in the 80's in Nevada.

I do have to say that a person living with 15 cats, and estranged from all of her children for 30+ years screams of mental illness.
To write a scathing obituary regarding a woman who had obvious issues to say the least is perhaps validating for the adult children, but along with children's rights not to be abused, a clear case for the mentally ill and the ability to have treatment. Mentally ill people parent every day. However, those with the untreated severity of what seemingly happend in their home--both the children need to be safe, and the adult needs to be treated.

It also astounds me that people who are cruel to animals get jail time. However, those who are cruel to children live on unattended. Free to have one (or 9) more children.

I do not know the whole story, and a I am not sure that writing with such candor was necessarily a good thing, perhaps cleansing, but not as helpful as it seems. I would think opens wounds that are hard to put a place on.

As an advocate for both children and the mentally ill, this breaks my heart. But we need to be mindful of both. And the fact that criminal mandatory jail time needs to happen for those who abuse children to the extent described. Mandatory treatment with rights taken is also an option (a guardian for the adult as well as the children, even).

Seems as if unless one actually kills a child, they are having children taken away from them. and that is about it. The severely mentally ill who are at the point of non-functioning and bringing their multiple children along for the ride with them need intervention.

May all of the adult children in this horrifying situation find peace in their souls.

@Jadelpn, are you saying there are people who are not inherently evil?I want to understand.

Why does the obituary state she died Sept 13, 2013 do they plan on her death?

In the picture, the date of death is listed as September 30, 2013... which hasn't happened yet. I did google it though and that was evidently a typo and this woman died on August 30.

Short answer--evil is made, not born. Until the circle is broken.

To me it screamed hoax. The daughter is a psychological consultant for a school and still carries this much hatred? The venom expressed does not seem to match growth and maturity that I would want in a psychologist around my children.

The woman is depicted as almost a cartoon character with the trailer and the cats. We all know that child abuse exists. One of the necessary parts of recovery from that abuse is to put it into perspective. The mother characterized may have been terrible. For me the saddest part of this story is that the next generation, if this has a basis in fact, has not grown beyond their abuse.

It seems they could not find one redeeming quality in this person. Since they had already severed their ties with her it seems a bit much to now be so vile. If it is fact then the system failed them more by not getting them psychological help to let go of their anger.

If this woman was as they report then she must have been a tortured individual with terrible mental illness.

The obit in this thread is the one I mentioned in the other thread about the glowing obit about a wonderful person.

This family is from Reno, where I used to live and now live 3 hours from . ... the name sounds familiar but I'm not sure.

I personally think this is a good thing - we need to speak out more about child abuse. As a school district nurse, I see a lot of verbal and physical abuse of kids. As a prior ER and L&D nurse, I saw it there too.

This obit went viral and has folks talking . . ... that's a good thing.

It makes me sad. Sad that allegedly these kids had to suffer. Sad to think of this woman in her late 70s who likely died alone and perhaps attoned for her sins. We just never know what goes on in peoples minds. What makes them tick. There is never any excuse to abuse a child....or anyone, for that matter but the whole thing is just very sad.

I often wonder the types of lives the patients I had in LTC must have led. Were some of them cruel and awful in their lives? Were they abused themselves? What kind of people did they used to be? I always thought to myself that It really didn't matter, they needed me then and I was there. I feel bad if these allegations are true, but the woman has passed on now and some would argue has paid her debt. I'm not sure how I feel about flaming her after the fact, especially since it does seem like she was probably mental ill and didn't get the help she needed.
