    my crust either gets burned or soggy.

    I'm subscribing to this thread 'cause I want to know, too. My homemade pizza always tastes like frozen pizza and I've given up.

    Ok, I make tons of home made pizzas.. here is my recipe:

    3/4 cup warm water
    1 tsp salt
    1 pkg dry yeast
    mix together and let sit for 5 minutes.

    Then mix in flour until a soft dough ball can be be made. Add flour until it is not sticky, but not until dough is stiff. Knead it for 5-10 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic, can add a bit more flour when you find sticky areas. Place in a greased bowl, and put oil on the top of the dough ball so it wont dry out. Let it rise in a warm area until doubled. 30-45 minutes or so. 3-4 cups of flour approximately.

    PREHEAT OVEN to 450 degrees.

    Oil cookie sheet or pizza pan and spread dough out to the edges. I usually dust the bottom of the pan with corn meal after I put the oil on.

    Add sauce (contadinas is really good) and whatever toppings you want. Pepperoni, mushrooms, etc.. make sure to drain the mushrooms well, if canned and same with olives. LOTS of cheese (If you are in my house )

    Then bake at 450 degrees. use the middle rack of the oven. Usually takes 10-15 minutes, depending on the thickness.

    I generally spread out the dough really thin. You can pre-bake the crust for 4-5 minutes before putting toppings on, to, if you want, but I rarely do that.

    In the dough recipe, I generally add garlic owder, onion powder, parmeasan cheese, italian seaoning and salt and pepper. make a yummmmmmyyyy crust. Can add a tablespoon of olive oil to dough as well if you want. CUT AND ENJOY!!!!!

    I buy the ready made thin crust at the store, which is actually really good. After you put the sauce and toppings on, it takes 12 minutes to bake. Yum! I've been doing this now for 2 months. My own pizzas taste much better than delivery. Buy the crust if you don't have time to make it.

    I cheat. I buy the premade pizza crusts.
    Cheaper and tastier than take out.
    I feel smart and virtuous for making pizza with spinach and chicken.
    I'm all about the "almost home made".

    I know the store bought crusts aren't horrible, but it costs very little make your own crust. Flour and yeast aren't too bad and you can make them, partially bake them, stack and freeze for later, too!

    It's the prep time for me with the homemade crusts. I don't always have the time.

    I agree that it does take longer to make your own. I think it is pillsbury (?) that has a pizza crust you just roll out, spread on your pan, top and bake. EASY and good. The only problem I have is that it tends to burn more quickly than others, but I like it, too, when I am pressed for time. I keep forgetting that I have more time now that my kids are grown!!

    think about how good a wood fire grilled home made pizza sounds... yummmmmmy on the beach, with a cold beverage or several....

    One thing's for sure....after homemade pizza, delivery just doesn't compare. I never did like frozen pizza either. Tastes like cardboard.
