I scrolled back a bit to see if there was another topic posted on this. I didn't see anything, so please forgive me if this is repetitive. My oldest son is going to UNC this August. We are in NY. ... Read More

So, I'm flying down with the hubs to see my son tomorrow for Family Weekend.
My little guy is staying home, he has football.
So, if yawl hear of a party, text me!

Okay, well, he SMELLS the same, my kid. And he LOOKS the same.
Happy/Sad. So great to see him, so sad to leave him.

Yea, so, um, he got in to a frat. What does that even Mean???!
I have visions of Animal House and I think of my smart nerdy kid doing all that and I get queasy.
I told him, "hey this can be the best 4 years of your life, or it can me the best 4 months of your life- if you screw it up, you won't be going back."
The funny thing is, one of my best friends from my LOTR board as in the same frat, but the Hobart branch. He's 30, closer in age to my son than me.
So now he's making Stepmom jokes.

The Big Kid is home. I've missed him so much. He's letting me hug him a lot.

Hey, just wondering how you're feeling now with 2 years under the belt? Had a son leave for college at the same time. Miss him while he's gone but thrilled to see how happy he is and how well he's doing. Every year seems shorter. Surprise I have a functioning adult child.

First year is over, The Big Kid came home today.
I sent off a clean cut looking kid and got back a baseball hat wearing long hair scruffy barded frat boy.
He still smells the same, though.

    He had a great year.
    I'm recovering.

Thank you for starting this thread. When my girls left for college, I suffered empty nest syndrome, but as one poster mentioned, be proud that your child is on her or his own and at least is in college. I have always been proud of their accomplishments, because both of them earned their masters degrees even though there were some traumatic times like we all suffer every now and then.
After I was living alone for a few years, I began to get used to it, and I eventually sold my place and moved to another state-the state where my oldest daughter was attending graduate school. about 15 years later my youngest daughter moved to the same state and now we are are together once again th each daughter being married and having 3 children of their own, and having their own homes. We have gone full circle, and I am now a very happy mom and grandma.

He's trying to look like William Shakespeare? (I couldn't resist)
