Talk to me about your hair...

I am getting sick of the ponytail. Don't get me wrong--it is efficient and practical. It keeps my hair out of my way, it does the job. But it is getting boring. I think I'm bored with my current cut. Clavicle-length, long layers. Usually when I get bored with my hair, I cut it to about my chin. I'm getting the urge to do so again, but keep going back to concerns about what to do for work.

Im in LTC, so I spend a large amount of time bent over a med cart. Understandably, I don't want to be pushing my hair behind my ears, or out of my eyes all of the time.

I have fine, straight hair. Headbands don't stay in place well--I have to re-do them too often to be practical. Small clips work, but my hair is too long right now for just those, so I do a ponytail for every shift. I usually wear it down on my days off.

So what do you do? Chop it all off into a really short 'do? Are you fine with the ponytail? Is your hair the type that listens when you spray it in place, so you don't have to worry about it?

I see a lot of ponytails, braids, and short hair at work, or people who just keep pushing it out of their face.

    What do you do?

I'll usually do a braid like in this picture and then throw my hair up in a messy bun or ponytail. I make it look a little messy but nothing gets in my face.

I wish I could braid! This would be sooo useful for working those long 12-hour days.

I like that! Change it up a little, from just the normal ponytail. I'll give it a try, thanks!

If you can't braid (it def. took some practice) you can always sub the braid for a twist in the front then either ponytail or bun.

Bun or pony tail for me, but my hair sucks. Most of the time I wear a headband with rubber grip things (so it doesn't slide off) to keep the wispiness and bangs in place. It's not a great look, but it works the best for me.

If you get your hair cut at chin length you could probably get away with just pulling the bangs/front pieces back and have the rest down. You could also try a headband.

Since we are talking hair, can I ask for some opinions as well? I have long, thick hair that I don't really want to cut off, but I am getting a LOT of broken hairs in the front from the constant ponytail wearing. Anything I can do to cut down on the breakage while wearing my hair up?

I will definitely try the twist in the front thing - it is very pretty.

I don't have fine, straight hair. Mine's long, thick, and frizzy if I don't hit it hard with a flat iron. Because of that, my suggestion might not work for you, but I thought I'd add it anyway in case another hair type is looking for a solution. For clinical days (I'm still a student), I have to put my hair up with it's still wet (otherwise it won't all fit). I use a rounded jaw clip and finish with some hairspray. It keeps all my hair up and nice and tidy. I've tried a bunch of different clips; this is the one I have found works the best for me.

I was trying to let my bangs grow out because I wanted to try the "everything off my face" look. Then one day, I got exceedingly irritated with having to constantly push my hair out of my face, and I grabbed a pair of scissors that were on a nearby table. Let's just say I should never be allowed near scissors when I'm irritated. Thank goodness my hair grows quickly.

I have similar hair, and I've used spin pins successfully. They're these neat spirals that you use to make a nice bun. Basically, just pull the hair back and twist into a bun. Follow the directions on the package. I think their made by conair and scuncii.

Make sure to get the larger size

Also, on you tube there are cool tricks for all types if styles. I think there's even a nurse who has style videos
