I bought my first guitar pedal/stompbox

  1. 2 Well, technically it is for my son but I definitely have plans on using it too.

With my family, if we are bored....we don't shop at the local mall. We go to Guitar Center.

We bought a line 6 M5 stompbox modeler. I checked out the reviews and it is a little box that does alot. We were shopping for my son's first pedal and the guitar center guy suggested the stomp box.

Any other guitar players out there? Do you use pedals?

I am primarily engaged in acoustic guitar.
    Good luck and have fun!

    Thanks tewdles.

The other day while at work I was happy because my fingertips were numb, I said this out loud and my coworker looked at me a little worried that they were numb. I explained to her about numb finger tips and callouses. They are like trophies to a beginning guitar player like me (in my opinion).

when I first started I put scotch tape on the tips of my fingers so they wouldn't get blisters and bleed...

Great advice. I am actually planning on buying my first guitar for my birthday--it will be an acoustic. Anyone have any ideas what the best models are? I do not want to go into too much money, but I don't want a cheap one either. I am thinking around $250, no more than $300. I think I can maybe get a discount, too.

There are a good selection of guitars in that price range.

Sounds like fun, nursefrances rock on! Or perhaps you'll go in for the softer stuff?

    Lol, thanks nursel56.

My son is the rocker. My son's guitar teacher is an old rocker and teaches my son songs from the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Metallica, etc. (Mainly to learn technique and style)
I like to play worship and praise music. It's a little different than rock and roll.

Not all praise music is sedate...Kutless comes to mind

Good point. I've seen Kutless a few times in concert. When my hubby and I first met (at age 17 /18) we liked a group called Deliverance (I think) and another one called Barren Cross...oh and don't forget Stryper (?spelling). I think the drummer of Stryper goes to my church off and on.

I absolutely love worship and praise, like down on your knees/adoration praise. Lately I want to practice my guitar every day and love to sing worship songs I am really enjoying this.

A number of years back we went a concert that had David Crowder, Third Day, and someone else. It was fun.

I am sort of a tight wad, old, hippy...Pandora, YouTube, and my own talents are my music choices just now.

Yep, youtube is my best friend lately. I made my own channel and have a fave music list from videos I like on there. I play this list every morning. One of these days I will post a video on there.

One of my favorite songs that is constantly in my head lately is one David Crowder band has done before. "How He loves us". I am just lovin' that song. But I like the video where Kim Walker of Jesus Culture is singing it live.

    I added the song

    I like this thread!

I'm a definite loser in terms of learning the guitar. My grandparents were in a band and my grandmother tried to teach me guitar when I was in junior high but I lost interest. Then, during nursing school in my late 30's, after test day each week, we'd gather at my good friend's apt and play guitar . . well, they'd play and I'd plunk.

My husband bought me a lovely guitar for Christmas that year - which has sat for 15 years and was recently broken by the cat, who knocked it over.

My 11 year old son started lessons a few months ago. He likes the lessons but won't practice every day. I'm afraid he is taking after his old mom.

    I ordered a dvd from TrueFire . . .. . a Beginner's lesson for kids.

Hoping he actually starts to enjoy it - he is in band and plays the coronet. But wants to quit band at the end of the year.

Ah well, you cannot MAKE someone want to learn to play an instrument.
