Good Morning! January 19th 2014
- 8Jan 19 by Davey Do GuideAs the Thread Title says, a Good Morning! to you.
Let's see what happened on this Date in History....
1953: 71.7% of all television sets in the United States are tuned into "I Love Lucy" to watch her give birth.
After Lucy became pregnant, I heard tell that there was talk of changing the Name of the Classic Historical TV Sitcom to "I Impregnated Lucy", but it was 1953, you know?
Here's something else:
1978: The last Volkswagen Beetle made in Germany leaves VW's plant in Emden. Beetle production in Latin America continued until 2003.
My First Car was a 1963 VW Bug. My Second One was a 1969. Beetles are so Small, I didn't get my Fill with the First One.
Fact is, I was 16 when I had my '63 VW Bug and knew nothing about Automotive Mechanics. After I first got it, I was driving around when it sputtered and the engine died. I coasted off of the road , got out, walked around to the front of the car, and lifted up the hood.
Another Fella in a Beetle Bug pulled up beside me and asked if he could help. "I don't know", I replied. "It seems as though I lost my engine!"
"Don't worry" the Other Fella said, "I've got a spare one in my Trunk!"
You see, the Older VW Beetles had their engine in the rear...
Oh, never mind.

- 7Jan 19 by Sabby_NC, BSN, RNGood Morning Davey and all who pop in,
LOL Thanks Davey for the history lesson and joke, hahahaha, funny thing is I could actually see that happening. LOL
Got a lot done yesterday which was nice, made the beef and barley soup which was a hit with hubby. I shall freeze the rest of it today in portion sized containers. Today I plan to bake thick pork chops with a stuffing top that I make and one hubby really enjoys.
Did not get to go out to the memorial that is held in honor of a patient and raises funds for our organization. Hubby got sick yesterday afternoon and his symptoms caused me some concern so I was not about to leave him alone. I shall email one of the family members and inform them we will make a donation in their loved one's name.
It was frigid yesterday and with the wind blowing just made it down right unpleasant although I did managed to rug up and get the dogs outside for some exercise. Today the weather will be more milder so the plan is to go for the hike and get the dogs out for some fun.
Planning on some hair and nail maintenance then some relaxation time while doing the ironing, yes I relax when ironing. LOL I can think of all sorts of things but I usually watch church while doing that.
Will try and catch a Nana nap as I am up way too early then finish off watching the moving Captain Phillips which so far seems a good movie.
Hope you are all doing well and have a most excellent and happy Sunday.
Hi Ted I see you down the bottom there, hope all is going well for you.
Much love to you all this day.
- 6Jan 19 by Joe NightingMaleI hope Joey is doing better today Sabby
Fairly quiet day for me yesterday, snowed quite a bit so I didn't get out much. Managed to get out before the snow started and visited a used book store and picked up some stuff. Was planning originally to drive into the city and go to the famous used book store Powell's, but with the snow coming decided to cancel that. This more local store is fairly new to me and has a pretty big selection. Didn't do much else yesterday. Watched Star Trek, and Svengoolie had "The Mole People", kind of slow but I watched most of that before getting tired and going to bed.
Slow start this morning, Friday's migraine returned. I figured it would, big decisions (like deciding to stop the job search) trigger big migraines, which can be quite persistent. Think I got this one under control in time. Going to see dad later today, will try and get outside for a while, might do some vacuuming as well.
- 7Jan 19 by BCgradnurse GuideHey all,
I'm in a totally lazy mood, meaning it's after noon, I'm still in my pajamas, and I haven't done a thing but read and drink tea all morning. Time to get my heinie in gear. The house is a mess, I have cooking to do for DS to take back to school, and there's football this afternoon. And I guess I should get dressed. I have my new Patriots "Do it for Sam" t-shirt to wear. Sam was a classmate and friend of my daughter's who died last week from Progeria. He was a huge football fan and the Patriots have dedicated the rest of the season (which hopefully doesn't end today) to Sam.
Davey-I always wanted a VW beetle but my father thought they weren't safe. Or maybe he thought my driving was the issue. Sabby-I hope Joey feels better. Enjoy your Nana nap. Hi Joe-hope the migraine is better. Stress brings them on for me, too. Hi Frances-I see you down there. And Happy Birthday to Viva las Viejas. I know she doesn't often stop by here, but wish her a happy birthday if you see her around.
Time to hit the showers. Have a great day!
- 8Jan 19 by Spidey's mom, ADN, BSN, RN GuideGood morning!
Funny coincidence - as my son and husband were watching Pawn Stars last night there was a story about VW Beetles . . . .cute car.
Had a good night's sleep but woke up feeling groggy and my back pain was a bit worse. Ibuprofen and coffee!
The temps should be in the 70's again today. Didn't even need a fire this morning.
Off to church. My birthday boy is coming up today (he turned 29 on 1/17) to watch football and go bow-hunting with a high school friend but will fit us in for a birthday meal. Might make that out at the ranch so everyone can see him.
New photo up on my FB from my daughter-in-law. My granddaughter - so sweet. All grandkids are. I was going up there this weekend but with Spidey's Fav Food Day and my other son coming up I decided I needed to be here. I'm on call next weekend so it will be in February when I can head up there again.
Joe - a good friend has been diagnosed with migraines - all these years she thought she was having sinus infections. Now she is working on finding the trigger/triggers with a neurologist's (headache specialty) help. Yesterday she was out for the count with a bad one.
Have a good day!
- 6Jan 19 by herring_RN GuideIn the 1070s I drove a used tan colored WV beetle that my kids called Herbie. Once it stopped in the street. I was actually able to push it with my left leg while steering it into a parking place.
Small and light, plus it never overheated.
- 7Jan 19 by NF_eyenurse GuideGood morning. I'm having a lazy morning and enjoying it. I plan to rest again today and keep taking my zycam so I don't get what my hubby and son had last week. The house is beginning to stir so it's about time to get up. We will probably watch our church service online. I will sneak a little laundry in here and there too.
Sabby, I always found ironing to be relaxing too. I rarely iron anymore because I don't wear my scrubs to work. They are supplied by the surgery center.
I like to hear about all the cooking and freezing you do. You should start a catering service. You could overnight your delicious meals to me. Hmmmm, sounds tempting.
Joe, hope your headache goes away soon.
I LOVE used book stores. My son and I came across one recently while running some errands. When we walked in the door we were like kids in a candy store. Actually, that would be a dream come true: a used book store and a candy store next to each other
Mr Do.....how are you? I was going to make this rhyme but I ran into a snafu.
Well, I better get going. Time to think about breakfast and coffee and church.
Oh yeah, I wrote a new article on the yellow side (the "nursing" side of allnurses) if anyine wants to check it out. It's about ophthalmic nursing. Thanks.
- 6Jan 19 by Ted, BSN, RNGood Afternoon -
Just woke up! Drinking First Coffee. Well, it's actually Third Coffee for this Sunday. First Coffee was actually drank at work. Second Coffee was drank while driving home from work. But since I went to bed after church, which was around 1:00 PM this afternoon, I consider this First Coffee because I work up after sleeping to start a new day. For me, because I just work up, it's Morning Time.
I have a headache.
Amy just reminded me that we had a dinner date with some friends. One good friend is celebrating his 50th Birthday today! I plan on reminding him that he can now join AARP. LOL!
Well. . . got to get ready for dinner, which will actually be my Breakfast (or something like that). Gonna plan on coming back to catch up on some ready. Davey Do wrote something about VWs. Those can be the cool bugs!
Cheers. . .
