A Worshiper's Heart: Devotionals for Daily Living, Part 1
by NF_eyenurse Guide
This is the first in a series of Christian devotionals. The goal of these writings is to touch the heart, spark a meaningful thought or feeling, and encourage those who need encouragement with the help of God's words and stories that have touched my life as well.
- 10 Published Sep 22, '13As I sit here I am reminded of a beautiful song penned by the Musician, Michael W. Smith. He has written many wonderful songs but the words that I ponder on are "I'm coming back to the heart of worship, it's all about You. It's all about You, Jesus."
I have had a desire to write a devotional series for some time now. I pray that you will be as blessed reading this series as I am being blessed by writing it. I have titled this devotional series "A Worshiper's Heart" because of my love for Christian contemporary worship music. This music is uplifting and has always soothed my soul. In times of struggle or in times of doubt I have always felt refreshed after listening to worship and praise music or by reading God's word. One specific time in my life comes to mind.
About twenty years ago, I was a part of the worship and praise team at my church. On Sundays we would arrive early to practice before the church service began. One Sunday morning did not start out as planned. You know those mornings when you check the dryer for some clean clothes and your clothes are still wet, where you can't find your car keys anywhere, you spill the drink you poured, and you stub your toe on the kitchen table on the way out of the house. I am sure you imagine the scene of havoc that was my early Sunday morning that day.
With my hair still wet and my purse falling off my shoulder I ran to my car. Needless to say I was running late. I felt so rushed. I was out of breath, my body was shaking. I was so frustrated!
As I got into my car I thought, "How can I praise my Lord and sing feeling like this?" I started the car and a song began playing on the radio. It was the first time I had heard this song. It is called, "If I could just sit with You awhile" by Dennis Jernigan. It painted a picture of rest and comfort, of sitting with my Heavenly Father, like a father with a child in His lap and resting in Him. I get tears now thinking back to the feeling of peace that came over me while sitting in my car and knowing that He chose this song to be played on the radio at the moment I needed to hear it.
There are times in life when our situations and struggles can bombard and overwhelm us and we don't see the big picture, that HE loves us and wants to sit with us awhile. We get so busy in our busy-ness that sometimes He is pushed to the side. But when we need Him He is there and always will be. So remember, when you feel frustrated or overwhelmed, rest in Him. Be still and sit with Him awhile. Remember to have a heart of worship, as the song says, "It's all about You. It's all about You, Jesus.

I try to remember that when when I am having a bad day . That He knows what I am going thru. I have to fight to hold my peace while He fights my battles. He is in Charge!2Oct 5, '13 by NF_eyenurse GuideThanks for posting the video HerringRN. The man singing is Dennis Jernigan, the one who wrote the song. I haven't heard this version before. It's nice.
Recently I wrote a short letter to Dennis Jernigan and let him know how much this song has blessed me and that I wrote a devotional about hearing this song for the first time. I thought it was nice that he took time to write back to me.Last edit by NF_eyenurse on Oct 5, '13
