Think I'm Gonna Write That Book........

  1. 3 Actually, the book is already written. Between all the articles I've written here, I've got enough material for TWO books, or pretty close to it, but I'm only worried about this one at this time. The working title is "For Rent: Used Nurse. Dirt Cheap!"

Now I need to tie it all together with recognizable chapters, and then find some means of publishing the thing. I can't imagine it being anything more than a niche-market book, because nobody outside of nursing finds the things we do anywhere near as fascinating as we do. LOL! But there are hundreds of thousands of nurses in this country, and even if only a fraction of them buy the book, it would be worth the expense of self-publishing and then marketing it.

So......what do you guys think? I've got lots of questions, like should I use this time between jobs to pull the book together and try to publish it? Would any of you even be interested in a book like this? Have any of you ever written a book, and if so, what advice would you give me?

Any thoughts you can offer would be much appreciated, even if your personal advice would be to "fuggedaboudit". I need to know if my aspirations are even possible, to say nothing of realistic.

Sounds like a fantastic idea to me! What about publishing through Amazon for Kindle books? It would be a beginning. I'll pick Herb's brain too. Don't lose your enthusiasm!

I would, too. I'd imagine students and just those thinking about nursing would be interested in reading the engaging and honest account of a real-life nurse with all the ups and downs! Go for it!

I think it's a wonderful idea! You are an exceptional writer and as I have said before, I would read your grocery list. I think publishing through Kindle could be a great avenue.

from my own experience, write NOW and write often - to take care of the times when you CAN'T or WON'T write. You know I would love it and I think a lot of nurses would!

Oh yeah......like when my Muse decides to fly away and leave the well of creativity to run bone-dry. I HATE when that happens.

Last spring I went through one of those dry spells, and I thought it would NEVER end. Then when summer came, my mood shifted and suddenly all sorts of stories came tumbling out........maybe too many, but it felt so good to be able to write again that I just let it flow. Now I'm in the habit of writing frequently, which is good discipline for someone who would love to be able to write for a living.
