  1. Morning

Not a busy day at work yesterday, lots of people decided not to answer the phone. My role has expanded a bit more, hopefully I can keep up. And I found out our manager is leaving, she's only been there a few months. Not sure what this means going forward

Otherwise yesterday was pretty orndinary, usual exercise and such. Noticed I'm sleeping better the last few days, not sure if it's because I'm getting off of the Internet earlier in the evening or the exercise or both.

Today should be fairly ordinary, though a 2 hour meeting this afternoon. Rumor has it they may be getting rid of work at home, in which case many of my fellow case managers may be leaving. A bunch are already questioning if they should stay. Could make things tougher on those of us who stay but it could also mean a permanent position for me

Nothing else unusal going on today, going to be warmer, and no more snow this week

    Good Morning!

Hope the meeting goes in your favor Joe. Glad you're sleeping better. I get off the internet and phone usually about an hour before bed and try to read a book instead. Of course, if it's a good book I don't don't want to put it down.

Funny thing on the way to bowling, which is over a 30 minute drive to Tampa I was almost there and remembered that I had forgot my bowling ball. We were in third place and I didn't want to hurt our chances of winning by bowling with a house ball because I bowl terrible that way. So I went home. Turns out they didn't win and we're now in 7th place.

Today is not supposed to be sunny, but it's it's warming up to 80 so I hope to head to the beach. Going to yoga first.

    Good morning Joe and Tweety.

Good news for you Joe: No more snow for the rest of the week?!!!

Oh, that is frustrating to get half-way to your destination and realize you forgot something, Tweety. Enjoy 80 degrees!

Meeting nurse friend for dinner tonight at a local, blah, Mexican restaurant. It really isn't a place I would choose to ate at ordinarily, but it is on my way home from the barn, and I can wear barn clothes without getting a second look. So, there you go!

I was going to take three patients Sunday night, but my preceptor decided I needed to "work on time management skills." Huh? I asked if there was a problem (geez, I only have two patients, pass my medications on time and do charting on time and still manage to sit for hours doing nothing) and she said: When you have a full load, you can't spend 40 minutes in a patient's room.

I don't recall spending 40 minutes in a patient's room. And does anybody on this thread think I WANT to spend 40 minutes in a patient's room? I did have one patient who loves to talk, and talk, and talk and talk some more. He will put his pill cup down to continue talking, I interrupt him and tell him to take the pills. I am not about to spend half my night in his room.

Even though I thought my preceptor was talking BS, I kept my mouth shut (after asking if there was a problem), and head down and carried on. It is a paycheck, and a good paycheck, and nothing more.

I did a dressing change on a patient that wasn't mine, just because I want all the experience of dressing changes that I can get.

On my way out yesterday morning, I stopped to say good-bye to my favorite patient who was being discharged. She has pulmonary fibrosis and has LOTS of anxiety over breathing. Very sweet woman.

Tomorrow is Advocacy Day at the state capitol with the anti-gun violence group I belong to. I am looking forward to it, but it requires me to get up EARLY on day off. I have to be at the State House by 0830, and I live at least 30 minutes from Frankfort, and must allot time for getting to the proper meeting room for check-in.

Back to work Thursday and Friday nights.

    Have a great day, everybody!

    Morning, all,

I am a bit in the dumps today. Over the weekend a friend of SO's lost his 16 year old daughter in a car pedestrian accident. She and a friend were crossing the street (it was dark out) and were both struck by a car. One girl was thrown to the curb, but the other was thrown into the street and subsequently hit by a car going in the opposite direction. The first driver stopped, but the second didn't. SO's friend's daughter died at the scene, and her friend died the next day. We will be going to pay a condolence call tonight. I don't know the family, but SO doesn't want to go alone. What do you say to the family? There's no words of comfort. I can't fathom what they must be going through. Ugh-sorry to be such a downer. I just can't get this out of my head.

Ok, enough of that. My schedule is not so crazy today, so hopefully I'll have time to get caught up with paperwork and labs.

Joe-lots of uncertanity at your job. I hope it works out in your favor, if you decide to stay on. Tweety-I hope you get to the beach. Sunset picnic or afternoon stroll? Is Billy behaving himself? Nel-I see you down there!

Hope all have a good day.

BC, that's dreadful. There are no words of condolence that can comfort or make sense of this.

Nel, perhaps next time you might mention that with just two patients you might spend more time in the room to fill up the time but that you understand that when you have a full load you can't do this...DUH. Preceptor seems a bit off on that. Enjoy your time off.

H'lo Joe, Tweety, Nel and BCg...and others who follow.

We've got clouds and rain predicted for the week, but warm temps.

Hubby's abscess has gone down, just some tenderness over the cheek. Doubt he will go to the dentist now. His heels are still sore (surprise!) but it helps when he wears his Nikes with good support. I told him about how sometimes if there is a hairline fx it might not show up on an xray until it begins to heal; if he continues to have pain, hemay need t see someone , maybe get a walking boot. I'm not sure. Or he can use a cane to keep some pressure off one or the other heel. Maybe it's just bruised bones without any litle fracture(s). *fingers crossed*

Tomorrow he is going down to pick up his mother at his aunt's house and then take her home. It was nice having him home for a while, anyway. He hasn't told his mom about the fall off the roof yet. YIKES.

Going to the branch office of the mortgage holder today; they will fax the application and required documents for the motgage mortification. Not sure how long that will take, but am hoping to see a good reduction in the mortgage payment. Last time we did this was , um, maybe six years ago, and it ony went down something like $30, then crept back up within a year or two. This time we owe something like $9,000 less, so maybe the payment amount will be nicely reduced. Here's hoping!

Gonna get ready and go to the branch offfice and get this outta the way. May drop by later...have a good'un, y'all!

Oh, BC, what a terrible tragedy! Very sad.

That is a good response, Tweety!

Good luck getting the mortgage lowered, Stars.

A warm "Good Afternoon" to you all. . .

Just read all of your posts.

BCgradnurse - What a horrific tragedy! I'm sure that just "being there" will be enough. As Tweety said, there are no real words that can make sense of it all.

NSIME - Hope all goes well with the re-financing!

I'll be leaving for work in about 25 minutes. Had a restful day, yesterday. Hope tonight's work is "Q". There are two patient's in our teeny-tiny ICU. I'll know in about an hour what it'll be like.

Had a nice phone conversation with my Dad, yesterday. He sounded tired but was seemed in good spirits. He also remembered my name, which is kind of reassuring. LOL! I'm going to visit him and his wife Friday afternoon. If it's nice out, and if he's up to it, I'll take them out for a nice dinner. if it's raining and/or if he's feeling weak, I'll bring them one of our favorite pizzas. Either way, it'll be a nice visit.

Hope all have a pleasant afternoon!

Nineteen pages faxed for me by the Branch Office! I think I gave them everything they need, but if not, I'm quite sure they'll let me know! Don't know how long the process will take.
Had to guesstimate when I started working for my company 'cause the application form wanted a date. Well I worked for them part time for 4-5 years and then went full time in ... I think 1988; but month and day? Whoooo knows! It's all one long blur! I have AT LEAST three 3" personnel files because I've been with them for so long.
Ted, it's a modification by the mortgage company, not a refinancing. The diff being we don't have to pay all those extras like assesor's fees and other charges and closing costs and all that stuff. P.S. if you're bringing pizza, I like everything except anchovies
BCg, horrible, horrible! Tragic, and appalling. (I just read in our paper how the city is going to add some under-bridge lights "to improve the pedestrian's experience at night." Uh-huh. Weird way to put it.) I can't believe the 2nd car did not stop, though. If they don't find out who was driving the 2nd car, I hope their conscience really weighs heavy on them. I mean, it's not like it was their fault they ran over the girl that was tossed in their path, but common decency would dictate stopping to see if any help was needed.
Tweety, I read a quote that made me think of your workplace: "Never beat a willing horse."
Nel, your preceptor is out of kilter in a big way!

    Gotta go. See yez tomorry!

BC, I can't add anything to what the others have posted, about the tragedy.
Agree, though, just being there is enough for now. Family and loved ones have some more tough times ahead, processing and grieving.
Perhaps later you will develop an idea of something tangible you can do...
    Hugs.

    Ted, hope work goes well.

No Stars, hope the re-jiggle of the mortgage goes well.
Good to read dh's heels are still allowing him to get around, and that his abscess has decreased.

    Lil Nel, how was today?

Well dh heard from SS and he will officially retire in late May.
Me? Not yet, I'm afraid. Perhaps three years more for me.
I am not suffering or overworked, so that's OK.
We do *most* of what we want to do, and it will be easier with dh not having to wrangle time off.
He is having fun right now, learning to play the bass!
We will have a practice this weekend, looking forward to playing!

I got the evening chores done and now am enjoying watching the Olympics -- as always!
Enjoyed watching Shaun White's epic gold medal run/win!
Watching the pairs figure skating now. Such talent and athleticism and preparation, all countries! What a thrill to just be there competing.

May go shopping after work tomorrow -- haven't done that in a long time. Need a couple things. Could wait till the weekend to shop, I guess. Will see.

We watched a Murdoch Mysteries episode tonight.

Guess that's it for now. Enjoy your evening!
