iPad 2 vs. iPad 3 vs. iPad Mini

  1. I've had a first generation iPad for several years now, and it's starting to show its age (the "incident" at airport security certainly didn't help- quite honestly, I'm surprised it survived). So just looking for some feedback out there on what people like/don't like about the various versions. I know that other companies have cheaper tablets out there, but I like the way Apple products work, plus then I won't lose all my apps I've already bought.

I have a small 11 inch Macbook Air. Why bother with an Ipad?
My Macbook has full internet connection, ie Ethernet, dialup, wifi, 2 USB's, thunderbolt and a protected screen. Cost me $700.

My main computer is a MacBook Pro. My iPad is primarily for travel (lighter and smaller, can use free WiFi if offered or create free WiFi from free wired internet when WiFi is pay only with my own travel modem) and as my eReader. I have both the Barnes and Noble Nook and the Amazon Kindle apps, and this way I can go shopping on both web sites, find some books that are only offered by one or are cheaper from one of the two. I find it much easier to tote around the iPad (with or without modem) than the MacBook.

I selected iPad 2 in this poll only because we own one. I purchased it for my wife last Christmat (or maybe it was the Christmas before??? I really don't remember). She uses it all the time. I tell you, these gadgets are amazing! I believe that her iPad 2 is more powerful than the Dell Precision Workstation that I had back in the mid-1990s!

Well, I got to play with an iPad mini one of the anesthesiologists brought into work, and I ended up ordering one. I like the idea of an operating system I'm familiar with (played around with someone's Nook tablet, and absolutely hated the Android system) and a size that fits in my pocket. Plus, I can still use all the apps from my original iPad- including the ones I can't use anymore because they're now compatible with only iOS 6, which doesn't come on the original iPad.

If the base level iPad minis were available, I might prefer them. Unfortunately, when I stopped by my local Best Buy store to get an iPad for my mom, I was told that the base level minis (16 gig memory, wifi) were sold out in 15 minutes after they went on sale. This is also the case for stores within 75 miles of my home.

I ended up getting an iPad 2 just like my wife's. I'm down at mom & dad's for a couple days, and spent some time showing mom the basics.

As a long time Windows person (& DOS before that!), I'm constantly amazed at the intuitiveness & ease of use of the iOS. I just wish that Apple hadn't gotten into a pixxing match with Google & pulled Google Maps off their devices. Oh well....

Counting the days till 11/21/12 when I get my new Ipad Mini (AT&T). I use an Ipad 2 at work for charting. I have it in a case with a wireless (bluetooth) keyboard. Love it but it gets heavy after I cart it around all day to multiple clinics.

    So...come on ipad mini!

I have the third generation iPad, but would have purchased the iPad Mini had it been available at that time. The smaller form factor is great for everyday use, particularly away from home. I would imagine it is just what the doctor ordered for busy nurses!

I too ordered the Ipad Mini White 32GB. I wish they would have put a RetinaTM display on it, but I won't whine too much- the smaller 7.9" screen will hopefully concentrate the same display specs as the iPad 2. I am so excited that people say its sooooo light, and easy to hold. Its soooooo thin! I too can't wait until she arrives. I didn't realize until yesterday SIRI was on it too!

It really excites me that since I wasn't able to upgrade to the iPhone 5(have 4s), I will at least have something larger at work, as I've been a hold out on using my iPad 3 at work.

    Well until it gets here,....

Good Luck on Everyone Who is Waiting!!!!

P.S. TraumaRUs, when you get a chance, will you review it for us? (PLEASE)
Is it as light as they say?

What does the display look like vs. iPad 2? Same?

Are you going to use it instead of your iPad 2 to chart with now?

Said that wrong, used the charting app on my phone 4s, small, holding out for the mini. They have 2 iPad 3's for the Nurses, or you can use your own or your phone- but it's all iOS. I was holding out for the Black Friday sale on the iPad 2 until the Mini really caught my heart.
