LTC personal advice please !!!!11! ;)

  1. Sorry bout the !!!!11, I could not help myself! For anyone that has had to place (or leave) a parent in LTC, I would love to hear your story of how and why and how you coped with "the decision." I am really struggling with this right now.

A bit of background.... my mom is 75 and has a hx of afib, pacer, falls (many) and was recently given the dx of early alz. She is at stage 1 on the scale, I forgot the name of it. Since March of 11, she has had total shldr rplcmt x 3. (L,R,R)

Dec 31 11 she fell oob and broke the R shldr, hence the 3rd surgery. She had many complications and ended up in ccu for a week, then d/c to ltc. She has been there since 1-14-12. If has become glaringly obvious that she can not EVER go home w/o 24/7 care. That is not possible, and for many many reasons, I know in my head that she should stay where she is.

That is the hard part for me...... I can not imagine falling oob, being whisked away by ems and NEVER going home again. To qualify for title 19, the house will have to be sold asap. She will never go back there. This is is killing me slowly. My head knows what needs to be done, but my heart is not cooperating. I would appreciate any advice from someone that's been there, done that. Thanks.

I have no history like this but just wanted to convey a hug or two.

I did work LTC and worked with many families that had to go through this. We all know you are doing the right thing, the only thing possible. That does not change the feelings.

I know your mother raised a wonderful daughter who cares.
